Herzen University was the winner of the Strategic Development Programs Competition, the first important achievement in carrying out the University’s Development Program for 2011-2015. This victory brings the University an additional RUB 150 million in financing from the state budget to accomplish the University’s Development program.
The University’s cooperation with the local authorities is of paramount importance. Out of 19 contractor selections announced by the St. Petersburg Administration for developing staff qualifications, Herzen University has won twelve. The service contracts are made with the St. Petersburg Governor’s Administration, the Education Committee, the Committee on Science and Higher Education, the Committee on Youth Policy and NGOs, the Committee for External Affairs, the Legal Committee, and the Social Policy Committee. These contracts total RUB 10.5 million.
June, 2015 -- According to Interfax Rating Agency, the Herzen University is the only educational institution which made it into the Top 50 Best Universities of Russia, and thus significantly improved its rating position. Read more: http://unirating.ru/

February, 2015 — Аccording to the Russian Wikipedia, the Herzen University made it to the top 40 best universities of Russia, becoming the best among pedagogical universities of the country. This ranking takes into account the ratio of surfing a specific article about the educational institution. The first three places of the ranking were given to Moscow State University (1128 surfs per day), Saint Petersburg State University (652) and Bauman Moscow State Technical University (431). The Herzen University takes 32nd position in the list (201 surf per day). The Herzen university is also among the top 10 best universities of St. Petersburg, along with St.- Petersburg State University, St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University, S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy, Saint Petersburg University of Mines and St.- Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy. The whole list includes 300 higher education institutions of the country with the most readable articles in 2014.
January, 2015 - Universitas Indonesia (UI) released the results of UI GreenMetric World University Ranking on January 16, 2015. The ranking compares universities efforts towards campus sustainability and environment friendly university management. Among 360 universities from 62 countries took part in the rating, Herzen University was ranked 59th , becoming the best university of Russia.
March, 2014 — According to Expert RA, Herzen University made it to the 4th group of best universities (D-class universities) of CIS. A total of 153 universities divided into 5 groups made it on to the rating. The 1st group (A-class) included only one higher education institution – Lomonosov Moscow State University; group B – 18 leading universities of Russia, Ukraine and Belorussia. The 4th group, besides Herzen University, included Far Eastern Federal University, Moscow Aviation Institute, Moscow State Pedagogical University, Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod, etc.
January, 2014 – Universitas Indonesia (UI) released the results of UI GreenMetric World University Ranking on 17th January 2014. The ranking compares universities efforts towards campus sustainability and environment friendly university management. Among 301 universities which took part in the rating, Herzen University was ranked 38th becoming the best university of Russia on the basis of criteria mentioned.
December, 2013 – Interfax announced the 1st International University Rating for CIS, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia. A total of 405 universities from 15 countries have been analyzed. Herzen University hit the first 100 of this rating and became the leading pedagogical university of CIS, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia.
September, 2013 – Vladimir Potanin Foundation made a list of 75 leading universities of Russia. Master’s students and lecturers of the master’s courses of these universities may participate in the Foundation’s scholarship programme. Herzen University takes 51st position in the list.
June 2013 – Interfax News Agency and Echo of Moscow Radio Station have carried out their fourth annual national rating of classic and research universities for the 2012/2013 school year. Herzen University has been ranked 44th. A total of 105 universities made it on to the national rating, including 73 classic universities, 29 national research universities, 2 teaching and one transport university.
January, 2013 – Herzen University is among 38 universities, which organize advance training for academic staff of higher education institutions being under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
November, 2012 – According to the rating agency Expert RA in 2012 Herzen University became the only pedagogical institution which made it to the top 100 best Russian universities. Herzen University is also included in the list of top 10 universities of St. Petersburg.
September, 2012 -- The Higher School of Economics and the Russian information agency Novosty monitored the results of the admission campaigns in Russia, and according to their data, Herzen University was 12th among St Petersburg’s institutions of higher education in the grade point average for the State Exams in 2012 (in 2011 – 17th), and it ranked 126th among all Russian institutes of higher education. It should be noted, however, that in some educational programs, such as geography, linguistics and foreign languages, the University ranks in the top ten.
July, 2012 – Vladimir Potanin Foundation made its own ranking of leading Russian universities on the basis of the Federal Grant Programme and grant programmes for young teachers in 2011/2012 academic year. Herzen University has been ranked 11th among 57 Universities of Russia.
May, 2012 – Herzen University is among 48 universities, which organize advance training for academic staff of higher education institutions being under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
June, 2011 – Herzen University topped the national rating list of Russian higher education institutions of 2010, compiled by Interfax news agency and Ekho Moskvy radio station, in the categories of Teacher Training, Humanities, and Linguistics. Among national classical universities, Herzen University has been ranked 16th -18th.
December, 2010 -- Interfax News Agency and Echo of Moscow Radio Station compiled a national rating list of Russian higher education institutions, and Herzen University topped it in the categories of Teacher Training, Humanities, and Linguistics. In 2012 Herzen University achieved the ranking of 33 among all Russian traditional universities, including national, federal, and research institutions, and 11th in the Potanin Foundation’s rating.
In 2007-2008 the University successfully carried out the program Developing an Innovative Training System for Specialists in the Field of Humanitarian Technologies in the Social Sphere as a part of the national project Education which targeted educational institutions implementing innovative programs.
